FIGURE 8: Lack of VTC4 and polyP results in increased cell death upon heat exposure. Logarithmic phase (day 3 post dilution) or stationary phase (day 6 post dilution) promastigotes of L. guyanensis (A and B) and L. major (C and D) were incubated at different temperatures (26°C and 37°C). The percentage of dead cells was assessed at the indicated time points by uptake of propidium iodide (PI). Results of a pool of 3 independent experiments were expressed as mean ± SD. Statistical significance was assessed by Two-way ANOVA (A D); * p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001, ns: non-significant.
