The cyclin Cln3 is phosphorylated by Pho85-Pho80 as a response to phosphate presence, resulting in increased stability of the cyclin and permitting it to reach the threshold for cell cycle progression through G1. Pho85-Clg1 can also phosphorylate Cln3, although at different residues, promoting its degradation as a response to nitrogen scarcity.
